Wherever they appear - at home, at work, or anywhere in between - ants can be a nuisance. To eliminate common household ants, TERRO Liquid Ant Killer should be placed in areas where ant activity has been observed. As the bait circulates through the colony, it eradicates not only the ants you can see, but also those you cannot. Within a few days, you should notice a significant decrease in the number of ants visiting the bait. Each 2 oz bottle provides ample power to resolve your infestation. The more bait placements used, the better the results!
How does Liquid Ant Bait work? Since this is a bait, you will initially see more ants - but this is a positive sign. As ants forage for food, they are quickly attracted to the sweet, sugary liquid. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail alerts other worker ants to the newly discovered food source. This is why you will observe more ants at the beginning.
Meanwhile, the active ingredient, Borax, slowly interferes with the ant's digestive system, ultimately eliminating it. However, this slow-acting effect allows the ant sufficient time to return and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow-kill mechanism is necessary so that foraging ants can make multiple trips to the bait. The communal nature of an ant colony enables the bait to be distributed to hundreds, if not thousands, of individual ants.
Using Liquid Ant Baits is straightforward. Before placing the ant killer, ensure you remove other food sources, such as crumbs, sugar, and grease spots, to prevent the ants from being drawn elsewhere. Do not place the bait where insecticides have already been sprayed, as the pests may avoid the ant killer.
Tear the cardboard tiles from the packaging along the perforated lines. Then, apply drops of the liquid ant killer onto the smooth side of the tile. Alternatively, you may use small pieces of paper, cardboard, or foil. Place the tiles on a flat surface near signs of ants and add more tiles wherever they may enter your home.
Monitor the placements regularly, but do not interfere with the ants or bait. Add more liquid if it goes dry or simply add more tiles to ensure a fresh supply for the ants. Depending on the size of the ant invasion, complete control may take up to 2-4 weeks. Once the ants are controlled, replace the bait every 3 months to prevent their return.
